Happy March fashion lovers and friends—it’s the luckiest month of the year.

I have green on my mind for several reasons. First, because Saint Patrick’s Day is around the corner and I’m greeted by sparkly clover décor every time I walk into Target or CVS. Second, because spring has officially sprung in Southern California, and everything feels glorious and green again—yay! And third, because whenever a color, a style, or a creative idea takes hold in my mind, I begin to see it everywhere, on repeat. I love that about passion of any kind: seek, and you shall find.

This recent obsession with green reminded me of an incredible green feather cape I own—and the fabulous stories that go along with it (I share one of them from 2023 below). When you allow yourself to feel fabulous, even just for an evening, it can have a surprisingly powerful impact. This month, I’m leaning into the magic of feathers (green ones especially), curating a wishlist of beautiful feathered pieces to inspire you. I also had the pleasure of styling the stunning Soliana in feathers for this month’s fashion story, and I’m so excited to share the images with you.

While I didn’t travel far this month, I found inspiration in a few local adventures—proof that Southern California truly is breathtaking. The desert remains one of my favorite places for long walks and quiet reflection—heavenly, in my opinion. Santa Barbara offered the perfect escape, blending wild natural beauty with an effortless, low-key chicness (perhaps the opposite of feathered fabulousness, yet fabulous all the same). And then there was a girls’ trip to Las Vegas—which, naturally, brought me right back to feathers and green. The moment a travel plan appears, I start imagining outfits, and Vegas practically demands feathers. We saw Absinthe at Caesars Palace—an unforgettable show filled with wildly talented acrobats wearing plenty of you-know-what…green feathers.

So this month’s theme is green feather energy: stepping outside your comfort zone, embracing a little fantasy, and allowing yourself to feel incredible right now—not someday because today is all we’ve got!

In the spirit of feeling lucky, celebrating the present, and embracing fabulousness—

I am sending Love and Style to you,
amyluxox

P.S. 💚 Have a very lucky and extra fabulous month. 🍀

Feeling Lucky

Here is some of my ‘found-green and lucky-moments’ from last month.

Credits (From Left To Right):

My Favorite Hat on my Favorite Hike. This Good Vibes only hat is from an amazing cafe in Malibu. They offer it is a bunch of awesome color combinations.

My New Aritzia Jacket in Santa Barbara. I think Aritzia should start sending me clothes for the amount of love I give them-anyways, they have the best jackets (giving Max Mara vibes) for really reasonable prices considering the quality.

Margot McKinney Display at The Peninsula Beverly Hills. So beautiful and so sparkly!

Hiking in Malibu Creek State Park. This place is absolutely serene and stunning.✨

My Books On The Go Presently. The Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo-lovely, comforting, inspiring. Half His Age by Jennette McCurdy, witty, raw, refreshingly honest. Life is Lifey by Sarah Shahi, haven’t read it yet but am super excited to dive in (plus it’s my favorite color pink). Forever Chic by Tish Jett, light, fun, fashion fluff. The Fashion Oracle by Nieve Tierney, Chanel-inspired exquisite artwork.

A Perfect Sunset on Sunset Boulevard. I was on my way to pick up Chloé at a friends house and pulled over to take this in. So pretty.

Republic Venue. A gorgeous new event space on Ventura Boulevard.

Sunset at The Ritz. Another beautiful sunset-heaven.

The Mindry. This is my favorite yoga space in Los Angeles. Magical and totally zen.

Green Feather Energy: A Little Fashion Story From My Heart to Yours💚

I would describe my personal style as feminine, informed, and intentional. I gravitate towards timeless pieces and believe that taste always trumps trends. I am discerning and care deeply about style-how I look-and how I feel in the clothes that I wear (most of the time anyway). After two decades as a fashion stylist, I have a system. I know what to wear for every occasion and for the most part, have some black version of it hanging in my closet ready to go. I know that black is always a good choice for me, and if I stick to my ‘uniform’, I will look and feel acceptable. I like to look sharp but not stand out. Usually, I prefer to blend in-black is excellent at this. When I’m not doing morning school drop-off in yoga gear, or running errands in a graphic print t-shirt and leggings (like all the other Studio City moms), I’m in one of my cute, black ‘go-to’ tops paired with good denim and sneakers (LA is notoriously casual). Sometimes I get bored of the monotony. Of my style. Of black. Of blending.

It was a hot sticky day in August when I realized I was in desperate need an outfit zhuzh. I was in line at Whole Foods post work-out, in one of my many black yoga sets, an oversized logo-T and white Birks, right behind another woman wearing her version of the same kit (same combo, same palette). Habits die hard, and my routine of leggings to denim and back to leggings (all black everything) was taking a toll on my self-esteem. I needed some color (and some joy) in my life!

Good clothes provide a fast track to happiness for me and there really is no greater excuse for a shiny new outfit than a girls night out in NYC. An upcoming dinner reservation served as the perfect opportunity to breakout of my black lycra bubble. I was determined to find something fun and fabulous to bring along with me. The wonderful thing about New York, is that no one gives a shit about you, and I mean that in the most loving way. There’s a hustle, an edge, a beat that demands attention; People are so busy doing them, they don’t have time to pay you any attention. This offers a certain freedom to play, an autonomy to experiment that other cities don’t have. I find LA to be the opposite. People care. A lot. A lot about themselves, how they look, how you look, how everybody looks, compared to you, compared to them-it’s exhausting! So dinner and drinks in Manhattan was my chance to reset, to be bold, to step out of my style safety zone- if only for a night. It’s not like I’ve never dabbled in looking extra, (I was a raver in London in the 90’s and that was largely about looking extra!). It’s just that in my grown-up, mom-ing, wife-ing, work-ing, zoom-ing-life, I have gotten so practical and comfortable and organized in my style, that I lost some of the joy of dressing up. I was determined to get that sorted and had the perfect excuse to jumpstart the process.

After many hours scrolling, and several trips to Beverly Hills, I landed on a Kelly green-ostrich feather jacket. It was loud and proud and bold (just like NY) and completely impractical, not at all versatile, and rather expensive (just like LA). It was perfect! I decided to wear it with all black (baby steps people), and paired it with leather shorts, strappy heels, and a ribbed tank! With a bright red mani, and fresh blow-out, I gave myself a once over in the hotel lobby, it was a look for sure! I felt fancy, glamorous, (and a hint self conscious) but reminded myself that in a sea of style, I was a teeny drop. As we stood in line at the venue, I noticed that I was being noticed (or perhaps it was just the feathers), but I definitely did not blend and I definitely was not in all black. That in and of itself felt really good. Turns out that green feather energy is very good for the soul.

In an Uber headed back to my hotel, I soaked in the boost, that only a fun night in a great outfit gives-it’s like style medicine.

love and style,

amyluxo (NYC, 2023)

Hazel Honeysuckle as The Green Fairy in Absinthe at Caesars Palace. This show is fantastic, and The Green Fairy is magical.

Trying On Feathers. Here I am trying on various feather combos for NY and the look I landed on to the far right. Unfortunately I didn’t get any great photos (there may have been some champagne involved), however it’s the outfit I’m highlighting! I loved the pink one too but ultimately felt the green was more special on me.

Soliana: Showgirl State of Mind

For March’s shoot, I styled feathers and fishnets. I do love show-girl aesthetic but also like to add a touch of strength and rawness to balance out the flirty vibes. That’s kind of a fool proof combination in fashion. I styled an editorial many years ago with showgirl pieces- feathers and rhinestones galore in a very rundown hotel room-it was beautiful contradiction. I’ll try and dig those tear-sheets up. In the meantime enjoy these images with Soliana.

Feathers have long been a symbol of glamour, drama, and unapologetic fantasy in portraits and on the red carpet, offering celebrities a way to transform fashion into spectacle. Feathers capture the essence of dressing up as performance—romantic, indulgent, and slightly theatrical—reminding us that fashion, at its best, is meant to delight and transport. They feel celebratory to me—light and very joyful. A little fantasy woven into real life.

Lu’s List: The Feather Effect

Credits by look (left to right):

Taller Marmo Piccolo Ubud Feather Trim Dress ($1925), available at farfetch.com. Wow this is fabulous! Main character energy is definitely required to pull this dress off, (as are long legs- or really tall shoes). Once those details are taken care of, get ready to shine!

Cult Gaia Laguna Clutch in Dominga ($598), available at cultgaiacom. This arch-shaped marbled acrylic clutch has a removable chain strap and also comes in Gold and Ivory.

Jeffrey Campbell Hey-Ya Sandals in Green Satin ($160), available at jeffreycampbell.com. These shoes are sexy and their barely there coverage will nicely balance out an exaggerated silhouette like this green feather dress.

Huishan Zhang Angelina Feather-Trim Midi Dress ($5292), available at farfetch.com. This dress is an absolute dream. The sky blue color, luxurious ostrich feather-trim, and off-shoulder-pencil skirt silhouette, all tied up with a matching belted bow is what fashion dreams are made of. This is made for a Cinderella moment.

Cult Gaia Eviana Marbled Acrylic Clutch Bag in Light Breeze ($398), available at neimanmarcus.com. This has absolutely no feather details but it is the perfect clutch for the blue feather dress so I included it.

Paris Texas Lidia Feather Thong Mule In Turquoise Crepe Satin($1250), available at paristexasbrand.com. These are so elegant, and literally light as a feather. I am not great at walking in stilettos, never have been but my goodness they look lovely on those who can walk effortlessly in them. I love this bold blue color, so stunning! They also come in Honey and Black.

Johanna Ortiz Western Fiesta Dress in Chocolate ($4995.00), available at johannaoritz.com. This dress is so much fun! The retro palm print perfectly juxtaposes the paiette sequin and feather trim. The key-hole cut-out and quilted bustier top make it next level.

Cult Gaia Caldera Clutch ($598), available at revolve.com. Cult Gaia has definitely nailed the mid-range clutch market. The brand filled a void and continues to offer up super stylish options. This one is slick, playful, makes a statement, and is top quality. I love it for the Johanna Ortiz dress.

Simon Miller Fringe Playa Bamboo Heel ($237), available at simonmillerusa.com. The bamboo heel and raffia fringe have vacay written all over them! Pass the pina-colada. They also come in natural.

Marques Almeida Lime Cropped Feather Top ($233), available at marquesalmeida.com. This is definitely a fun piece to add to your summer wardrobe- and it’s on sale! The ribbed jersey paired with fabulous feathers is a fun contrast-Sporty Spice would have rocked this hard! (Probably still would actually). Pair it with super wide leg denim and platform sneakers for a casual take or with high rise leather shorts and platform sandals for a more dressy look. It also comes in Bright Pink and Deep Purple.

Miu Miu Feather-trimmed Satin Miniskirt in Pistachio ($3000), available at mytheresa.com. Over the top and wildly expensive? Yes! Adorable, fun, and inspirational fashion? Absolutely! I have chartreuse on the brain these days-it reminds me of 90’s fashion and Groove is in the Heart blaring on the radio. The color looks amazing paired with black, Wear this (or a find something similar 😉) with a sheer-black button up and stilettos, or with a black racer back tank and platform flip flips. So groovy!

ALC Janie Feather Bag ($695), available at alcltd.com. Having a few fabulous clutches on hand is always a good idea especially when they are simultaneously statement pieces and incredibly versatile. You could add interest and elevate a jeans and bustier look for a cute cocktail-hour look, or pair this with an evening gown for a black-tie event. Absolutely timeless. It also comes in Pink Sandstone and Slate Blue.

Sam Edelman Witney Mule Shoes ($155), available at zappos.com. These are the perfect topper (or bottom-er if that’s a thing) to so many outfits. They are totally walkable (not that high) and very wearable (can go dressy or casual). They also come in Mustard, Scarlet, and Sand.

Alice + Olivia Chandra Feathered Vest in Sage ($1495), available at aliceandolivia.com. Although it is not clear from the image, this is a proper vest so whatever you pair it with will show through. The soft green color is definitely giving Stevie Nicks-70’s vibes so would look incredible worn over a cream silk camisole and flared denim or keep it fancy and pair it with a paisley floral print dress.

Sebastian Feather Tie Sandal ($305.29), available at cettire.com. Love these strappy sandals for a tone-on-tone look if paired with the vest. A printed dress with a touch of sage in it would be beautiful. A cream dress, (or cream tank with light denim) would work really well. Add some gold accessories to top off the look.

Mignonne Gavigan Reida Earrings ($295), available at mignonnegavigan.com. How bold are these bird earrings?! They are feature intricate embroidery, vibrant feathers and are embellished with beads and sequins.

La Double J La Scala Top in Bamboo Black ($950), available at ladoublej.com. This top is an absolute show stopper! I would classify this as an ‘outfit-top’, meaning you don’t really need anything else other than basics to finish your look. This top would look so cute with distressed-cuffed denim and slingback kitten heels or paired with slim fit black trousers and patent pumps for a more polished aesthetic. It also comes in a variety of gorgeous jacquard prints with contrasting feathers as well as velvet versions. Bottoms in matching prints are also available.

ALC Janie Feather Bag In Pink Sandstone ($695), available at alcltd.com.

Reformation Tilda Heeled Mule in Rosewater ($278), available at thereformation.com. I love how sophisticated yet effortless these satin mules are. French girl chic for sure. They also come in Black and Pinecone Brown.

Lapointe Cascading Feather Cropped Top ($2500), available at neimanmarcus.com. Some clothes are meant to be photographed, this top belongs in one of Slim Aarons 1960’s era party snaps. Crafted from sheer tulle and embellished with cascading feathers and shiny beaded details-it’s truly a piece of wearable art. Pair it with black wide-leg trousers and patent pumps, or with a black satin mini skirt and kitten heels.

Johanna Ortiz Talisman Dance Necklace ($495), available at johannaoritz.com. This is an ‘outfit necklace’, you don’t need anything else. You could throw it on over a tank top or t-shirt and look dialed in. I also love the idea of feathers on feathers because why not?!

Lulala: March Style Notes

No green in sight here…I am always transparent about how much black I wear. 😉 I did venture out into grey territory and felt happy about that. I wore this fuzzy sweater and matching silk skirt for a high tea date at the Peninsula hotel-my idea of heaven…little sandwiches, beautiful desserts and white glove service? Yes please! I love bustiers made of suiting and paired this one with black trousers and black Nudists. I was going to wear this for my Valentine’s date but decided on the black bouclé dress pictured instead. I will definitely revisit this outfit and wear a blazer or leather jacket over it.

A Reminder

Joan Didion’s quote, “Every day is all there is,” is a gentle but powerful reminder to live fully in the present. It distills life to its simplest truth: the moments we have right now are what matter—not the past we can’t change or the future we can’t predict. For me, it’s a nudge to savor the small joys, approach each day with intention, and yes, break out the feathers—because if not now, then when? Treat every day like the special occasion it truly is.
